NCR Wins 2022 Best Early Careers Initiative Award for Apprenticeship Program
NCR and Multiverse won the the 2022 Best Early Careers Initiative category at the UK In-House Recruitment Awards. This recognition honors companies that provide unique and useful early career opportunities to their new hires.
NCR Professional Services saw an opportunity to build a diverse cohort of promising early careers talent and train them in the skills of the future through an apprenticeship program. The team set a goal of having half the UK PS team's early career hires be apprentices.
In order to carry this out, the PS team designed and launched a three-year apprenticeship program for Data Scientists and an 18-month program for Business Consultants. They then executed a recruitment campaign to hire 50 apprentices. They approached Multiverse, a startup tech company that provides high-quality apprenticeship programs that combine work, training and community, help them get their idea off the ground. Together, Multiverse and NCR PS launched the program in three months.
Patrick Gormley, VP, Data & AI, NCR Professional Services, said "These young people are impressive and very motivated. I am impressed with the quality of program the team was able to launch in such a short period of time and am looking forward to seeing the results of this cohort of next-generation talent. The selection and assessment process helped each team hiring an apprentice find great candidates with the potential to grow."
These vocational opportunities allow young professionals to gain the skills needed to succeed in the technology industry.
Once the apprentices were selected, the NCR team worked hard to make them feel welcome through their onboarding experience. Adam Bryant, an apprentice, shares on the program:
"This program provided me an opportunity to learn the practical skills I need to succeed in a data science role. There has been internal support throughout – making sure I feel welcome and have access to all the opportunities available. I've never seen anything like this. This has really made NCR stand out to me and I feel like I'm with a great company with strong prospects."
